The inspiration behind... 'Run Into Flowers'

Welcome to our new collection - ‘Run Into Flowers’. One I hope transports you to the poppy fields of California or the wild flower meadows of England. I started designing this collection at the end of last year, with the first fittings happening just before lockdown in early March at our European factory. I wasn’t sure how of when I would be able to launch the collection. The second fitting, I was able to carry out solo in my flat, filming myself while I twirled it to check the fit. I am now excited to bring you the dresses in late July, and hope you are able to enjoy these as we slowly move out in the world for summer. Valentina and Layla, to me, represent escapism, joy and movement. Whether that’s dancing in your back garden or taking a road trip this summer.

Layla is an update of a favourite from our last collection (with the addition of velvet trim ribbon) and Valentina is the lovechild of one of my favourite vintage numbers and inspired by a dress my friend Naomi inherited from her nan. Both made in a super soft and floaty crinkle cotton, with soft rayon lining and dyed especially for us. The ‘Marigold’ a beautiful sunny yellow, ‘Lilac’ a favourite RADISH shade, cream (perfect for a relaxed wedding look) and classic black.

A few things that helped me during lockdown and as I was bringing this collection together included dancing, music and the sea. I have listened pretty much non-stop to Amateurism Radio (where I heard this M83 song that lends it’s title to this collection), danced along with Ryan Heffington’s dance classes (as I knew a few friends were doing simultaneously across the country ) and found peace on my daily visits to the beach here at home in Brighton .

Someone I knew who would perfectly channel the spirit of this collection, was our old friend Lauren Doss. Lauren, who is an audio and visual artist, has created us this special playlist to celebrate the collection launch and also our third birthday this week. A selection of tracks that have kept her inspired for the last few months, featuring a couple of her own beautiful ambient tracks from her record Voices . Lauren says it best here :

'Walking and running into nature has been the medicine during this time. Getting lost, wondering through meadows of wild flowers, swimming in rivers, gazing up at the blue skies or watching the warm rain fall on the green leaves. This music has been my accompaniment through it all. Music transcends us into a dreamy escape. It can guide us through a gentle yoga flow ritual and meditation. It sets us free in dancing and singing, and gives us energy to move and do. Music grounds us and offers comfort like a best friend. The beauty of ambient music allows us to tune in to ourselves and the world around us. Gently inspiring us to discover spaces that we have yet to explore as sonic adventurers, befriending our inner Dorothy, when ‘there’s no place like home.’
